How much does a Zazen Bed cost?

Prices are in Canadian dollars, plus 13% Ontario HST. Colour and tufting style are free choices. White-glove delivery and setup is free in the GTA. The mattress is not included. The Fall Sale needs no promo code and applies to the whole bed, headboard upgrade included.
What does a King cost delivered in Toronto?
A King with a 5 ft headboard in white or black vegan leather is $3,300 in the Fall Sale, plus $429 HST: $3,729 all in, delivered and set up anywhere in the GTA. A Queen with the same headboard is $3,150 plus $409.50 HST, $3,559.50 all in.
Is there anything else to pay?
Not within the GTA. Outside it, delivery is quoted by distance (see Delivery). A colour outside white and black may carry a fabric surcharge, which we confirm with you before anything is ordered.
Sizes and dimensions
What sizes does it come in, and how big is the frame?
Queen and King. The frame is 15 cm (6 in) wider and 23 cm (9 in) longer than the mattress it fits, so the platform shows a clean edge around the mattress.

The opening is 6 cm wider and 9 cm longer than the mattress, so standard Queen (60 × 80 in) and King (76 × 80 in) mattresses fit with a little room for bedding.
How tall is the headboard?
Your choice of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 feet (91 to 244 cm) measured from the floor. Five feet is the most popular height: tall enough to anchor the room, low enough to sit under most windows and art.
Will it fit up my stairs and through my door?
Yes in almost every home. The headboard and platform travel as separate pieces and are joined in the bedroom by our delivery team, so nothing has to turn a corner fully assembled. If you have a tight stairwell or an elevator, tell us the measurements and we will confirm before you order.
Headboard and tufting
What tufting styles are available?
Six, all set by hand in the workshop:
- Horizontal channel, the most popular: wide horizontal channels across the full headboard.
- Vertical channel: the same channels running top to bottom.
- Rectangular channel: a grid of clean rectangular panels.
- Box-tufted: buttons on a square grid.
- Diamond-tufted: classic deep-button diamonds.
- Non-tufted: one smooth, taut panel.
Every style is the same price. The most-ordered bed is a King in white vegan leather with a 5 ft horizontal channel headboard, which is what most of the gallery photos show.
Colours and materials
What colours can I choose?
White or black premium vegan leather are the standard colours, at no extra cost. Other shades, such as ivory or a warm off-white, are possible on request: we source vegan leathers from our upholstery suppliers and can mail you swatches so you can hold them against your bedding and choose at home.
What is vegan leather, and how does it wear?
A polyurethane or vinyl upholstery with the look and hand of leather, made without animal hide. It is durable, wipes clean with a damp cloth, resists stains and does not need conditioning, which is why we chose it for a bed you will lean against every night. Why we upholster in vegan leather.
What is under the upholstery?
A properly dried hardwood frame joined with real joinery and bolted connections that can be snugged tight again in a minute if they ever need it, a solid platform base that supports the mattress evenly, layered padding pulled taut so the surface stays smooth for years, and tufting set one pull at a time by hand. Delivery and setup
Is delivery free? Where do you deliver?
White-glove delivery and setup is free anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area: Toronto, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville and the rest of York, Peel, Durham and Halton regions. Our own team brings the bed in and assembles it in your bedroom, usually in under an hour.
Outside the GTA we quote delivery by distance before you order. For example, delivery and setup to the Belleville and Trenton area is $450. Elsewhere in Canada we can arrange a freight quote.
How long does it take?
Every bed is built to order in our Vaughan workshop. Build and delivery take about 3 weeks from the time your order is confirmed and paid. We arrange the delivery date with you as the bed nears completion.
Ordering and payment
How do I order?
Configure your bed on the order form: size, colour, headboard height and tufting style, with the price shown as you go. Send the inquiry and we reply within one business day to confirm the details, the delivery address and the final price. Nothing is charged at that point.
How does payment work?
Once the order is confirmed we send a secure Stripe invoice by email and text. Pay by credit or debit card, either in full or 50% to start the build and 50% on delivery. No payment is taken on the website itself, and your card details never pass through us.
What is the return policy?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of receipt, subject to a 20% restocking fee. Contact us to arrange one.
Living with it
Does it come with a mattress?
No. People's mattress preferences vary widely, so we leave that choice to you. If you would like a recommendation, Endy mattresses, also made in Canada, pair well with our beds.
Do I need a box spring?
No. The solid platform base holds the mattress evenly across its whole surface, which is exactly what mattress makers design for. You can use a box spring, but we recommend against it.
Does it have under-bed storage or a lift-up base?
No. The Zazen Bed is a low, fixed platform bed, and a hydraulic lift-up storage base is not available on this design. If storage is essential to you, ask us about a custom design.
Does the bed have to go against a wall?
No. It is free-standing, though a wall behind the headboard gives it extra support and usually looks best.
How do I clean it?
Wipe with a soft cloth and warm water, or a mild soap solution for marks, then dry. No conditioners or harsh cleaners are needed.
Seeing the bed
Is there a showroom?
Maple Zen is a small family workshop in Maple, Vaughan, and we do not have a public showroom. You can see a Zazen Bed in person by appointment at a Toronto suite when it is available, and we are happy to send a workshop video, more photos and fabric swatches, and to walk through everything on a call before you decide.
Do you make custom beds and other upholstery?
Yes. Besides the Zazen Bed, our custom upholstery studio designs and builds bespoke beds and headboards, upholstered wall panels, banquettes and benches, and takes on reupholstery, for homeowners and interior designers across the GTA.

Who makes the beds, and where?
Maple Zen is a family business in Maple, Vaughan, Ontario, founded by Canadian immigrant families with roots in Cambodia, Poland and China. Our master craftsmen have been designing and building fine furniture since 1988, and every bed is made in our own workshop, not imported.
